Jose G. Puig Jr., P.E.

President & Chief Mechanical Engineer

Jose G. Puig Jr., P.E., is the President of JGP Engineering, bringing nearly three decades of comprehensive mechanical engineering expertise to South Florida's MEP industry. Since beginning in the firm in 1995,  founded by his father in 1972, Jose has taken over JGP Engineering into a trusted leader in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design solutions.

Educational Foundation

Jose's technical foundation was established at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1985. His academic excellence was complemented by specialized industry training at the Trane Company in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, where he completed an intensive program in air conditioning and refrigeration design, system and equipment components, and Computer Aided Design (CAD) applications for the HVAC industry.

 

Professional Credentials

As a licensed Professional Engineer in both Florida (License #49148) and Puerto Rico (License #14532), Jose maintains active involvement in leading professional organizations including the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the Colegio de Ingenieros Arquitectos y Agrimensores de Puerto Rico.

 

Career Excellence

Jose's career trajectory demonstrates a unique combination of hands-on technical experience and executive leadership. Beginning with summer positions at Standard Refrigeration Co. in Puerto Rico, where he gained practical experience in pipe fitting, welding, equipment installation, and system start-up, Jose developed a comprehensive understanding of HVAC systems from the ground up.

 

His professional journey continued with Trane Company, where he progressed from their intensive training program to service and maintenance operations in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This experience provided invaluable insight into equipment performance, troubleshooting, and customer service excellence.

 

Leadership & Major Projects

Since founding JGP Engineering's Florida operations in 1995, Jose has successfully led the design and implementation of major projects throughout South Florida, including:

  • J.W. Marriott at Brickell Avenue, Downtown Miami

  • Barclays Financial Center Office Building

  • 1000 Bed Female Correction Facility, Broward County

  • Wackenhut 500 Bed Work Release Facility
